Description

A decadent and easy-to-make Chocolate Toffee Trifle featuring layers of rich chocolate cake, creamy whipped cream, luscious caramel and fudge sauces, and crunchy chopped toffee bars, perfect for a crowd-pleasing dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Cake Layer

  • 1 pan chocolate cake (9×13-inch), baked and cooled

Sweetened Condensed Milk & Caramel

  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 12 oz caramel sauce

Whipped Cream

  • 2 cups cold heavy whipping cream
  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Toffee and Fudge Toppings

  • 6 Heath or Skor bars, chopped
  • 1 cup chocolate fudge sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare Whipped Cream: In a cold mixing bowl, beat the cold heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Chill until ready to use to maintain its texture and volume.
  2. Cube Chocolate Cake: Break the baked and cooled chocolate cake into small chunks or cubes suitable for layering in the trifle dish.
  3. Layer Cake and Sauces: In a trifle dish, place one-third of the cake chunks as the bottom layer. Drizzle evenly with one-third of the sweetened condensed milk and one-third of the caramel sauce to infuse richness and moisture.
  4. Add Whipped Cream and Fudge: Spread a generous layer of whipped cream over the cake and sauce, followed by a drizzle of chocolate fudge sauce to add depth and creamy chocolate flavor.
  5. Repeat Layers: Repeat the layering process two more times using the remaining cake, sweetened condensed milk, caramel sauce, whipped cream, and fudge sauce until all ingredients are used.
  6. Top with Toffee: Finish with a final layer of whipped cream and sprinkle the chopped Heath or Skor bars on top for a crunchy toffee topping. Add extra fudge sauce if desired for extra decadence.
  7. Chill Before Serving: Place the trifle in the refrigerator and chill for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to meld and the dessert to set, enhancing its texture and taste.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure the heavy cream and mixing bowl are well chilled before whipping.
  • You can substitute the chocolate cake with homemade or store-bought alternatives.
  • Chill the trifle for longer (up to overnight) for improved flavor melding.
  • Use high-quality caramel and fudge sauces for a richer taste.
  • Toffee bars can be replaced with other crunchy chocolate candies if preferred.
