Description

These Crispy Golden Crab Bites are flavorful seafood appetizers featuring lump crab meat combined with crunchy breadcrumbs, fresh vegetables, and a blend of seasonings. Lightly fried to achieve a golden, crispy exterior, these bite-sized treats are perfect for parties or as a delicious starter, served warm with zesty lemon wedges and your favorite sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Crab Mixture

  • 8 oz lump crab meat, drained and picked over
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plus more for coating)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red bell pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For Frying and Serving

  • Vegetable oil, for frying (about 1/4 inch in pan)
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crab Mixture: In a medium bowl, gently combine the lump crab meat, 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, chopped green onions, diced red bell pepper, egg, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix carefully to avoid breaking up the crab meat too much and ensure everything is well incorporated.
  2. Form the Bites: Shape the mixture into small bite-sized balls or patties, approximately 1 tablespoon each. Roll each piece lightly in additional breadcrumbs to add an extra crispy coating.
  3. Heat the Oil: Pour about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil into a skillet and heat it over medium heat until shimmering and ready for frying.
  4. Fry the Crab Bites: Fry the crab bites in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon or spatula to turn them gently and ensure even cooking.
  5. Drain and Serve: Remove the fried crab bites and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm alongside fresh lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauces like tartar sauce, aioli, or spicy remoulade.

Notes

  • Make the bites ahead of time and refrigerate them before frying to save time on serving day.
  • For a lighter option, bake the crab bites at 400°F for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through until crispy.
  • These crab bites pair wonderfully with tartar sauce, aioli, or a spicy remoulade for dipping.
