Description

A simple and refreshing recipe for edamame pods seasoned with sea salt and fresh lemon juice and zest. This healthy appetizer or snack is easy to prepare, featuring tender edamame boiled to perfection and brightened with citrus for a vibrant flavor. Perfect for a quick nutritious bite whether warmed or at room temperature.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 cups edamame in pods (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • Optional: extra lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Boil water: Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Add ½ tablespoon of sea salt to flavor the water.
  2. Cook edamame: Add edamame pods to the boiling water and cook for 4–5 minutes if fresh, or 5–6 minutes if frozen, until they are tender yet maintain a bright green color.
  3. Drain and season: Drain the edamame and transfer them to a large bowl. While still hot, toss with the remaining ½ tablespoon sea salt, fresh lemon juice, and lemon zest until the pods are well coated with seasoning.
  4. Serve: Serve the edamame warm or at room temperature. Offer extra lemon wedges on the side for added citrus flavor if desired.

Notes

  • To eat, gently squeeze the pods to pop the beans out.
  • For extra flavor, consider sprinkling with chili flakes or drizzling with sesame oil.
