Description

Deliciously rich and nutty pecan bars with a buttery crust and sweet, gooey topping. Perfect for holidays or any sweet craving, these bars combine a crisp base with a caramel-like pecan layer for a classic American dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • ½ cup light corn syrup or maple syrup
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 cups chopped pecans
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. Make the Crust: In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the flour and salt; mix until a crumbly dough forms. Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  3. Prepare the Topping: While the crust bakes, combine brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, and heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the butter melts and the mixture is smooth. Bring to a gentle boil, then remove from heat and stir in chopped pecans, vanilla extract, and salt.
  4. Assemble and Bake: Pour the pecan topping over the warm crust and spread evenly. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden.
  5. Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan, then lift out using the parchment overhang and cut into 24 bars.

Notes

  • Bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
  • For a twist, add a splash of bourbon or sprinkle mini chocolate chips into the topping before baking.
